Ball State Day at the State Fair

Tuesday, August 14 was Ball State Day at the State Fair. Expo Hall Street was filled with activities for the entire family. Each year we enjoy the chance to catch up and reconnect with alumni and students alike before the academic year begins.

Alumni Awards
Join us for the biggest Miller College of Business alumni celebration of the year! Friday, October 5 marks the fourth annual Alumni Awards Dinner, initiated by the Miller College of Business Alumni Board. This year Carl George, CEO of Clifton Gunderson, LLP, will be inducted into the Miller College of Business Hall of Fame. To make your reservations for the dinner and to learn more about the alumni awards, visit www.bsu.edu/business/awards.

New Faculty Hires
Each year as we welcome a new group of students to the university, we also welcome new colleagues. This year five tenure-track faculty members join our ranks:

  • Susan Brudvig, Ph.D., Marketing, Florida State
  • Anca Cotet, Ph.D., Economics, Clemson University
  • Michael J. Hicks, Ph.D., Economics, University of Tennessee
  • Stacey Schetzsle, Ph.D., Consumer Behavior, Purdue University
  • Li Sun, Ph.D., Business Administration, Oklahoma State University

In addition to being part of the new faculty, Michael J. Hicks is also the new director of the Director of the Burearu of Business Research.

Back to Ball State
It’s the calm before the storm on the Ball State campus! Students and faculty return for Welcome Week activities August 15-25, and classes begin August 20. The list of Welcome Week activities is impressive. It is packed full of fun and informative sessions and workshops. For freshmen business majors and transfer students, we sponsor a session entitled “The Miller Experience.”  We want our students to realize that being a business major means so much more than just taking classes. It is the total experience, incorporating myriad extracurricular, professional development, and social activities provided by the college.

This is an exciting time on campus that I look forward to every year. I can still remember fall 1966, when I transferred to Ball State and took my first accounting course. What do you recall about the beginning of your first year at Ball State? We’d enjoy hearing about your Ball State business experiences, news, and successes, so please keep in touch. You can reach me at rdavis2@bsu.edu or (765) 285-8192.
