Ball State Day at the State Fair

Congratulations to Carl George, the 2007 Miller College Alumni Hall of Fame Inductee. Carl received his induction at the fourth Annual Miller College Alumni Award celebration held on October 5. Other outstanding alumni receiving awards were Jack Campbell, Renae Conley, Mark Holden, James Wainscott, Kathy Arbuckle, Wayne Dunham, Robert Haecker, Jim Micklos, and Mike Newbold. Please consider nominating an alumnus who deserves an award from the college.

In addition to the Miller College awards, the Ball State University Alumni Association honored the following Miller alumni at Homecoming last weekend: Bob Browning, Matt Momper, Karen Mangia, Kevin Irwin, and Adam Holderman. Congratulations to all of these most worthy alumni!

Entrepreneurship Program Success Continues
On the heels of being ranked by U.S. News & World Report, The Princeton Review has also ranked Ball State University’s Entrepreneurship program among the nation's top 20 programs out of the 900 schools evaluated.

Moreover, the National Consortium of Entrepreneurship Centers honored the program for its innovation, student success and teaching and learning environment. Larry Cox, Entrepreneurship Center Director, accepted the 2007 Excellence in Entrepreneurship Teaching and Pedagogical Innovation Award on behalf of Entrepreneurship Center at the consortium’s national conference.

Ball State Sales Students Stack up to the Competition
Jon Weaver, a Marketing major at Ball State University, finished No. 1 in the H.H. Gregg Center for Professional Selling Regional Sales Competition held on October 5.

Weaver along with other Ball State students competed against students from Purdue University, University of Louisville and Indiana University. The competition was judged by businesspeople representing 48 different companies including Eli Lilly, Marathon Petroleum, Federated Insurance and Sullivan-Schein White Lodging.

Chris Naffziger, Tyler Clemens, Zach Pine, Erich Rhude, Whitney Gutgsell and Jon Weaver competed as a team in the recent Indiana University sales competition edging out students from other Midwest universities, and finishing second to a team from the University of Houston.

Students Get Head Start on Job Search
With on-campus interviews in full swing, seniors on campus are off to a running start in their employment search. More than 150 employers and 800 students participated in the annual Fall Career Fair, held by the Career Center. The Third Annual Job Fair for insurance, risk management, finance, and actuarial science students held earlier this month drew more than 36 companies and 180 students.

Homeland Security Honors BSU Information Systems Projects
Two Ball State University immersive learning projects were honored during the Indiana Department of Homeland Security Higher Education Conference on October 10 and 11.

In competition with doctoral students from Indiana and Purdue universities, Zac Adkins, Muncie, Ind., accepted a first place honor on behalf of his Businesses Fellows team and Chris Hayden, Evansville, Ind., and Lindsay MacLeod, Fort Wayne, Ind., earned third place for a year long immersive learning project.

The projects, which helped find solutions to potential homeland security problems, proposed network security solutions for the Indianapolis International Airport and local Delaware County government respectively.
