Irish eyes smiling on digital research
A Ball State University student's innovative system designed to analyze viewership of digital display advertising recently won the top award at the annual International Business Informatics Challenge (IBIC) in Dublin, Ireland. Mark Isenbarger, a graduate student from New Haven, Indiana received first place for his paper “Automated Market Research: Capitalizing on Unforeseen Changes in the Market." His paper is based on an emerging media project developed during 2007-08 when Isenbarger, then a senior in Ball State's Miller College of Business, led a student team enrolled in the systems analysis and design class offered by the Department of Information Systems and Operations Management (ISOM). Isenbarger's award marks the third consecutive year that a Ball State student has won a major award at IBIC. In 2007, a student won the Best Presentation Award, and another student won the Best Cooperative Project Award in 2006.

Ball State’s entrepreneurship program
moves up in rankings

Ball State University’s undergraduate entrepreneurship program has climbed to 11th in the sixth annual ranking released by Entrepreneur magazine and The Princeton Review. The program was ranked at 20th in 2007 and has been consistently listed in the top 25 since 2003. Ball State’s program is listed ahead of those at Baylor University, Syracuse University, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and University of Cincinnati.

This is the second major recognition of the undergraduate program this fall. In late August, the program was tied for 10th in the annual rankings by U.S. News & World Report. The publication also touted Ball State as the nation’s 14th best “Schools to Watch,” a new listing honoring colleges and universities that are making the most promising and innovative changes.

From the Dean’s Office
This is a great time to be a Ball State Cardinal. I hope you are wearing your red and letting people know that you are an alumnus. Besides the national recognition of the football team, as you have read in this e-newsletter your college continues to be nationally recognized academically. Of course, as an alumnus and interim dean, I am proud of all of our programs! In my opinion, they are all worthy of national recognition.

October has been a great month and we are now past mid-term. November brings a focus on “crunch time” when students begin realizing that deadlines for presentations, papers, projects and final exams are within weeks. This is probably a reminder of what you don’t miss about college!

As an alumnus, please remember that we are always interested in you and want to keep you strongly connected to the college. Let’s work together to enhance our educational and alumni programs to help our future and current students and strengthen the value of your degree. Your support is always sincerely appreciated. Please let me know how I might help you.

Until next month, GO CARDS!

Thanks, Rod
